No more Alaric???

Here’s the good news. Matt Davis fans will soon get a chance to see the sexy actor on their television screens every week and not just as a background player. Matt has been cast as the lead in CW’s upcoming drama Cult which is pretty awesome news. I’ve long felt Matt is terribly underutilized on The Vampire Diaries as Alaric Saltzman but even so, I love the character so I don’t exactly love what this bit of casting news means for my favorite television history teacher. Man Candy Champ, Misha Collins

Last week sucked. Saturday night I closed the Man Candy poll as I normally would. Misha Collins had a 90% lead and that was awesome. I declared Misha the winner and Sunday, I began preparing his profile to have it ready for Monday. Then something happened. A lot of people got very angry and sent me some nasty messages. It seems they felt they should’ve been given more time to vote for their favorites and demanded I reopen the poll. I bowed to pressure. At the time, it seemed the only fair thing to do considering the accusations I’d cheated to give Misha the win. Kind of ridiculous when you really think about it as Joshua Bowman of Revenge was the nominee I put on the poll. Were I cheating, it would make sense that I cheat in favor of Joshua but that’s really neither here not there. I made the decision I made and I stand by it. Why? Because in the end, Misha’s fans knocked the snot out of this poll and led Misha to a very impressive win with 89.22% of the final vote. Even so, controversy remained.Before we get to this week’s nominees, let me take a minute to say this once more: if you want your man to win you absolutely have to vote for him. Otherwise you have no right to complain. Okay, let’s get to this week’s candidates.

Josh Dallas Still Reining Champ

This is normally the part where I talk a little bit about who won last week’s Man Candy poll but this week is a bit different. I’ve gotten a lot of requests to keep the poll open for one more week. Why? Because Misha Collins came up from behind last week on the very last day of voting and completely smoked the competition. There was a small rally in votes for some of the other men in the competition but some didn’t feel there was enough time to even things up. So in the interest of fairness, I decided to extend the vote another week and give fans of the other men the chance to catch up. Since there is no actual Man Candy Monday this week, I’ve decided to treat Man Candy fans to a ten picture gallery of each nominee. Check out the galleries and cast your votes. Let me share my one piece of advice to anyone who’s looking for music for a movie or television show. You absolutely, positively can never go wrong with The Black Keys. I’ve been a fan of these guys for quite some time now but it wasn’t really until I heard Hard Row featured on Sons of Anarchy that I really realized how custom made their music was for more visual mediums. It was proven again Thursday night on The Vampire Diaries.

Before we even get started I want to send a big thank you to everyone who voted last week. More people participated in the vote last week than ever before and by a fairly wide margin. One thing was clear by the time the polls closed. People love Josh Dallas and let me tell you this, that did my bitter heart good. I love this man. I put him on the poll a few weeks back but he didn’t get the votes he needed to stick around. This week, however? It was a total landslide. Josh took the win with an astounding 71.72% of the votes. His closest competition was Ryan Gosling who finished in a very distant second place with 10.66. Not so far behind him we had our third place finisher, Michael Trevino who earned 7.38%. Michael Pitt was hot on Trevino’s heels landing in fourth place with 6.97. Ryan Gosling, Michael Trevino and Michael Pitt move on to this week’s poll where they’ll be kept company by three all new candidates.

Edward Norton sadly ends his run this week. He landed in fifth place and garnered only 1.64% of the votes in the end. He did slightly better than my personal nomination from last week, Craig David who only earned 0.82% of the end total. He tied with the two write-in nominees who will be added to the poll this week, Supernatural‘s Misha Collins and Josh’s former Once Upon a Time costar, Jamie Dornan. Early in the week, I had a pretty good feeling this week’s winner was going to be sexy Aussie, Alex O’Loughlin and as it turns out, I was right. He was ahead by a pretty wide margin all week and that is just fine with me. It’s always nice to get the chance to profile a man who doesn’t get nearly enough praise. The man is gorgeous, talented and a perfect fit for Man Candy. All you Alex fans can check out his Man Candy profile (featuring Alex’s vital stats, a complete filmography and a gallery with 150+ pictures) by clicking ‘here‘.

As much as I’d love to write about Alex a little more, it’s time to move on to this week’s poll. There are a few candidates returning from last week thanks to your votes. While Alex won with an impressive 33.33% of your votes, Josh Dallas did well too, taking second place with 20.83%. Michael Pitt and Michael Trevino weren’t terribly far behind, sharing third place with 20.83% each.  Edward Norton’s back again this week after finishing in fourth place with 8.33% of your votes. In fifth place, we have a write-in candidate who has actually been on the poll a few times before but has yet to garner the votes needed to stick around, the lovely and talented, Ryan Gosling. His write-in nominations earned him 4.17% of the votes and another shot at the win. Male model, David Gandy will not be returning on this week’s poll as he sadly failed to earn any votes this week, coming in last with 0%. This one hurts. I won’t lie.
