The Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis Split: Fact or Fiction

I’ve been holding off on throwing my opinion into the mix on this one because, quite frankly, I really don’t want it to be true. Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis were one of the few Hollywood couples I thought would be together forever. Naive? Sure, but the way they’ve always spoken about each other really made me feel them as a couple. Johnny has said Vanessa is the only person that is able to pull him out of his ‘dark moods’ and that Vanessa made him believe in love at first sight. They were romantic. They were beautiful. They were a golden couple. But are they done? Well, let’s look at what people are saying.

Johnny and Vanessa haven’t hit the red carpet together in over a year. That may not mean a thing but for a couple like Vanessa and Johnny, it does seem to be a bit unusual. It’s not enough to make me believe the rumors but when you consider a recent interview Vanessa did to promote her new film Cafe de Flore things start looking a little less certain. During the interview, Vanessa had this to say about marriage and soulmates:

The idea of a soulmate is beautiful and very romantic to talk about in a movie or a song, but in reality, I find it scary.

In the same interview, Vanessa said she doesn’t believe in things like marriage and soulmates because “if you lose your soulmate, everything is done for.” Johnny, on the other hand, has stayed very quiet on the subject although some media outlets are reporting friends and family members aren’t just worried about the end of the relationship but are also worried about the impact the split will have on Johnny. Let’s not forget Johnny’s life before Vanessa. He wasn’t exactly known for his good behavior. He’s said he really settled down because of Vanessa and the kids. My hope is that without them – assuming the rumors are true - he won’t go back to a more dangerous lifestyle.

Of course, all of the drama could be for naught. Let’s remember Vanessa’s been busy with her career and Johnny’s been busy with his. It’s entirely possible conflicting schedules have kept them from attending big Hollywood events together. Johnny has never been the kind of buy into all of that Hollywood stuff anyway. He likely just doesn’t pay it as much attention as the rest of the world seems to.

Before I share a few pictures with you all of Johnny and Vanessa together, I’d like to just talk about Johnny and Vanessa as a couple, if I may. Johnny has said he knew he was in love with Vanessa the moment he saw her across the room when they were attending the same party. It was the second meeting for the pair. They’d first met years before at a different party they’d attended but for one reason or another, didn’t pursue a relationship. Once they did though, things moved quickly. Johnny moved her into her home, even learning French so he could talk with her parents. They have two children together, Lily Rose and Jack. When Lily fell ill, Johnny and Vanessa stayed at the hospital with her until she was on her feet again. Later, the couple donated a sizable sum of money to the hospital as thanks for treating their ailing daughter so well.

So are they or aren’t they? I have no idea and in the end, it’s really none of my business. It is my sincere hope that they are, however. Until there is official word, no one knows for sure. Sources are to rumors what a friends of friends are to urban legends. Everyone knows a friend that has a friend that knows someone who died when they said Bloody Mary into a mirror three times. That doesn’t make it fact. That makes it an interesting story. For now, I’m treating the Johnny and Vanessa split rumors the same way.
